FEAR

Fear is a snare. It always assume the worst and never sees the positive possibilities.

Fear torments. It can reduce bold people to timid people and make you worry about things that may never happen. Fear can paralyze and make you incapable of making decisions or carrying them out. it is a vicious enemy of success. Fear, if left unchecked can cause sickness and even death.

No one can deny the reality of fear. No one can say he or she has never been afraid. We have all experienced fear at one time or the other, just that some have mastered the act of keeping it in check before it has the chance to manifest. They have learned to control their fears instead of allowing it to control them.

Most common types of fear

* The fear of people, of large gatherings
* The fear of criticism, of rejection,
* The fear of poverty, of failure
* The fear of the unknown and
* The fear of success.

These fears can make one ineffective and tie one down to a life of mediocrity.

* Some people feel nervous when they are around other people, especially in a large gathering or with strangers. Some are easily intimidated by the rich, an influential personality or someone in a higher position to them. The truth is, these people are just like you. They've got fears just like you. They've got problems and struggles just like you. So come down to earth and be yourself. See them exactly as they are; a human being just like you!  Just be nice and treat everyone with respect.

* The fear of criticism is a major roadblock that prevents many from achieving their goals. The fear of what people would say or think about you. If you live your life base on what others think of you, you will never go far.

* Many people because of the fear of rejection won't even try to pursue their desires. They will rather be where they are than to make an attempt and be told no. To be told no could hurt but that shouldn't stop you from moving forward, that's not enough reason not to try or quit. Achieving your goals demands you to persist and persevere until your desires are met. If you are rejected, you should try again and again. Never quit because quitters never win. Who knows, your next attempt could be your breakthrough.

* Some people in order not to fail, will rather not try. Since failure is painful and people don't like pain, they will rather remain where they are than to make any attempt. They can't withstand the pain of failing. There is no need to fear failure. If you try and fail you are to pick yourself up and try again. Failure is an opportunity to try again and do it better this time around.

* Just as some people fear failing so also do some fear succeeding. This is mostly because they don't want to welcome change. Although they desire something better but they aren't ready to leave their routine life and try new things, knowing full well that any attempt to be more will take them away from what they are used to; away from their comfort zone. They aren't ready to pay the price for change and grow. They will rather tell themselves to be content with what they have and where they are.

* The fear of what may go wrong. The fear of the unknown makes a lot of people not to even try at all or quit on their way to achieving their goals.  It's normal for such thoughts of what could go wrong to cross one's mind when embarking on a new project but the thoughts mustn't be allowed to stay for long but to focus more on the benefits, on what might go right.

No need being afraid of what could go wrong unless the fear is rational. A rational fear acknowledges a clear and present danger. An irrational fear can paralyze you with thoughts of catastrophes that are unlikely to occur or hazards that don't exist at all.

Fear of the unknown makes you worry about what may never happen and even if it's going to happen, worrying won't solve it. And at times, it's our fears that make what we are worried about to come to pass. What you fear you create. When you function in an exhausted and state of anxiety and dedicate precious energy toward imaging something going wrong, you are more likely to make a mistake than if you are well rested and focus on the blessings in front of you.

 FACING YOUR FEARS

To overcome your fear, to prevent it form tying you down making you ineffective, you have got to face it. You have got to confront and deal with it. Find out what you are afraid of and why. What exactly is it that is causing you the fear and then courageously confront it.

You have got to move forward in spite of the fear. If you don't control your fears, your fears will control your life and hinder you from becoming what you desired.  And the best way to control and confront your fear is to act. Take action. Do what you are afraid of doing. When you take the bold step and do that thing you are afraid to do, the fear will vanish and your your self esteem and confidence will increase. Action is the best antidote for fear.

Let your thinking center on your desires and not your fears. Fill your mind with positive and potential building thoughts and develop positive attitudes. With the right attitudes you won't see your failure as the end of the world but as a stepping stone, a bridge to your success. With the right attitudes, you wouldn't mind what family and friends say about you for pursuing your goals. With the right attitudes, you will courageously take that bold step and go after what you want without allowing the thoughts of what might go wrong poison your mind.

Lack of adequate knowledge and information may also bring about fear. Fear and ignorance go together. Fear can be caused by ignorance when you have limited information. With limited information, you may be tensed or worried about the outcome of your actions. Ignorance causes us to fear change, to fear the unknown and to avoid trying anything new or different.

The very act of gathering more information and experience in a particular area gives you more courage and confidence in that area. Learn more about the subject matter. Aim yourself with adequate information before you set out pursuing your goals. This will guide you on the journey, diminish your fears and self doubt, and make you competent.
