As we all know, hardly can anyone achieve much in life without being mentally fit. Living a successful life requires being able to make smart choices and prompt decisions, and the best way to achieve this is through mental alertness and clarity.
Most people make wrong choices when they can't think straight. When they are confused and lack clarity of purpose, of what lay ahead of them and the consequences of the decision they are about to make.
Mental fitness gives you a positive attitude and confidence to deal with life issues logically, to think through your problems and arrive at the best decisions. It guides you in you day to day activities which overall determines what you becomes.
To achieve mental fitness there is a need to take note of what you constantly feed your brain and soul. Just as the food you feed your physical body determines how strong and healthy your body system becomes so also does your being fit mentally relies on what you constantly feed it, that is, what you continuously put in there. You must constantly feed your mind with highly enriching and nutritious mental food.
Your mental faculty is your thinking faculty. That's where you process everything you see, feel, believes and everything that happens around you generally. What you think about ( your thoughts) will determine what you do. The thoughts you allow to go through your mind will determine your feeling, your feelings determine your conduct and behaviour which in turn dictates your actions and results.
Every suggestive influence around you has an impact on your thinking and on your subsequent behavior; the ideas/ information you come across daily, what you watch on the TV, what you listen to on radio, read in books, newspapers or magazines and the people you surround yourself all have a cumulative influence on the way you think, your actions and the person you will eventually become.
To be mentally sound and be able to make smart decisions you have got to ensure all the aforementioned factors are those that are influencing you positively. If you spend most of your time listening to sad news on the radio, watching programs on TV that aren't adding any value to your life or hanging out with people that aren't going anywhere with their lives, all these will influence your thoughts and the direction your life will take.
Read good literature, listen and watch programs that influence you positively, associate with positive, optimistic and cheerful people that are making great impacts in their lives and engage in creative activities that challenge your brain and make you think out of the box.
Another way to ensure mental fitness is to be aware of your physical health. To be alert and productive requires an enormous amount of physical, mental and emotional energy. Your mental, physical and emotional energy walk hand in hand. If you are not physically healthy and emotionally stable, you can not be mentally sharp and smart.
To stay smart and sharp mentally, you need to take excellent care of your physical health. You are to organize your activities to make sure you have high level of energy. Eat healthy and highly nutritious food, exercise regularly and have ample rest. Most people in their pursuit of money hardly rest. They neglect their health which soon deteriorates and affect all the wealth they have accumulated. They spend the larger part of it taking care of their body they have neglected for long.
You need adequate sleep to replenish the mental and physical energy you burn during your day to day activities.When your physical, mental and emotional energy are well balanced, you will be healthier, happier, more energetic and alert to perform at your best.
Another way to stay mentally fit is to continue learning, training and educating yourself. Education is a lifelong process. Most people once they have finished school hardly read again. Being through with schooling shouldn't stop you from learning and growing. Keep learning new things and pursue personal development. Continuous education expands the mind and renew you mentally. Open your mind to learn many things and engage it in several topics. It's valuable to read broadly and expose yourself to great minds.
In summary, in your pursuit of being a better you and to operate at your optimum best you must ensure you are emotionally, physically and mentally fit. Mental fitness gives you the confidence to make right decisions and keeps you on the right path. To stay mentally alert always think positive thoughts, say positive things to yourself (positive affirmative words) and have a positive image of what you will like to become and not what you are at the moment until you see yourself becoming it. Be definite, disciplined and specific about the people, ideas, materials and information you allow your mind to dwell upon. Make sure they are those things that enrich your life and contribute meaningfully to your purpose and goals.
